I’ve been aware for awhile now that Riley can say my name. When I ask her – can you say Zoey? She says it right back to me ‘Soey’. And I like her calling me mum or mummy, I don’t want her to start calling me by my actual name. But I guess I just find it strange that she calls Josh by his name and not me.
Curiousity killed the cat and all of that. So the other day I asked her – is my name Zoey? She looked …
We nearly made it. We came so very, very close. We nearly escaped from it.
It’s the last day of Winter and we nearly got through all of Winter illness-free. Sure I had a couple of colds in there, but nothing that took hold, and Riley was thankfully well for the whole season. Until now. I’ve been feeling like I”m on the edge of a flu for a couple of days. And I came home tonight to a very tired, slightly snuffly little munster who had a slight temperature.
I’d love …
This week is the week that I’m working full days in the office for the first three days. All as part of my handover. And while I don’t mind the hours or the long days (hello 2 and a half hour commute each way), I do mind what I’m missing out on when I’m not home.
I miss my baby. I’m gone before she wakes up and home just before she goes to bed. And while my pregnant self is relieved that she’s going through a patch of sleeping on her …
I finally bit the bullet and sent off my MacBook to get repaired. It wasn’t a major issue – the keypad isn’t working properly – but I’d found a way around it with the settings. Still, it’s under warranty so I might as well get it fixed while I can.
I already miss it. I’m writing this while sitting at my computer desk. How archaic. I’d say this will severely inhibit my TV watching. Or my blogging. Not sure which. Most of my weekend was spent backing up the MacBook because …
After three days of the princess/fairy costume I could see that this phase wasn’t going away anytime soon. If you can’t beat them, join them. So I went out and bought a second dress that Riley thought of as a ‘princess dress’, just for the sake of variety.
And I’m beginning to wonder about the kind of messages I give her during this phase. Overthinking? Quite possibly, that’s like my job. But I worry about describing princesses in a purely physical way ‘pretty’, or the idea that princesses only wear …
Finally, after months of wondering where in the world the cleaning fairy was, yesterday she arrived to assist with some of the vacuuming. Although she wasn’t the most efficient cleaning fairy I’ve come across, she was certainly pretty easy on the eye. And came with a set of her own tools, no less. Very impressive.
I think I’ll be seeing a lot more of her too. This morning when Riley woke up, for the third day in a row she said ‘fairy? princess?’ I’m going to have to get her some …
Yesterday was the first day that Riley insisted on what she wanted to wear. And yesterday, she wanted to be a fairy. She also wanted to wear a hat that was too small for her and she hadn’t worn since she was a baby. Most of the day was spent twirling about, while she said ‘fairy’, ‘printh-ess’.
The best part was when she found a big piece of cardboard and wrapped it around herself and declared herself to be a ‘bobot printh-ess’ (robot princess).

It’s probably from the flash. But still, I love these sorts of photos, where her face is so still. Rare, apart from sleeping and momentarily blinded by flash photos.
Or it could be from sheer exhaustion. Although we did sleep in until 8 this morning. Yes, total heaven. It was a no napping day. And she powered through until crashing for the night, somewhat reluctantly at 5:30. Getting her to crash AND sleep through is all about getting her into bed before she actually goes to sleep. Somewhat challenging, because in …
I wish I had done something wonderfully exciting over the weekend, but between my nausea, voting, watching in horror as the election monstrosity unfolded and dealing with a bout of teething with the munchkin, the best that it got this weekend was sitting in the backyard soaking up some much missed sun.
But you can’t really ask for much more than that, particularly when you’re watching your two year old play with some new dinosours, complete with very menacing growling.
