My Birth Story

I’ve written about Riley’s birth in bits and pieces but never really told the whole story from beginning to end. And as this is my 300th post, it seemed like I good idea.

I was overdue. I hadn’t had any contractions or braxton hicks contractions for that matter, or so I thought. I felt as big as a house. Every now and then I’d have mind-numbing shooting pains run down my leg and my knees would buckle with it. I couldn’t sleep because I was that huge and my hips were …

Guest Post: Growing Up Is Hard to Do

This is the first guest post on Good Goog, and it comes from Amber @ The Unlikely Mama. You can follow her on twitter here. Be warned, photos of her gorgeous daughter, Alexa, are a wee bit addictive. Proceed with caution. Amber has a generous spirit, an old soul and a wicked sense of humour (is there any other kind?) so give her a warm welcome!

Whoever says being a baby is easy is crazy.  Put yourself in your child’s shoes, or well, booties   Babies are like tiny refuges …

The Googy

Fair Warning – this is going to be one of those super mooshy posts where I wax lyrical about how much I love my baby. If it’s not your kind of thing you may want to skip over it or get a bucket. But don’t say that I didn’t warn you.

I’ve had a rough week. And I suppose I haven’t been my usual Christmas-enthusiast (rabid fanatical) self. I’d hoped to be pleasantly pregnant during the festive season, but my miscarriage threw me a bit of a curve ball. Physically, I’m …

5 Best Baby Show Finds

I went to the Sydney Baby Show a few months ago. Very hard to spend the amount of time you’d like at all the stalls when you have a toddler in tow who appears to have developed an allergy to sitting in a pram.
But nonetheless it was nice to look at baby stuff and at least have a little bit of an idea about what I could use second time around, instead of being completely clueless and buying a whole heap of ridiculous things that I never used.
1. The Baby …

Risk Taking Behaviour

At a certain point you realise that everything you do is risky in some way or another and you attempt to ignore just how risky in an attempt to hold on to your sanity. Oh what would that be you ask?
1) I drank plenty of coffee throughout my pregnancy and while breastfeeding because I was too exhausted not to.
2) I vaccinated the munchkin and tried to ignore those statistics tht suggested that one in every ten milion suffer paralysis or some other hideous side effect because I figured it would …

A Letter

For a while now I’ve wanted to write a letter to the Googy – and after reading other letters here, here and here, was finally inspired to do exactly that.

All letters like this begin exactly the same way. I can’t believe you’re 18 months old. Little people make time speed up. It’s true and not just something that old people say.
When you were born you were 10 days late, or fully cooked as I prefer to think of it. It seems that you’ve been trying to make up for it ever …

Birth of a Cosleeper

I remember (vaguely) telling Mr Goog when I was pregnant that we shouldn’t put the bassinet in our room. I can’t remember my exact reason for this. I have pregnancy amnesia!! But I think it was something to do with not having to then move her into her room at a later date – that it would just be easier to have her in her room from the beginning.
If that was the reason it shows an astronomical misunderstanding of the nature of babies, breastfeeding and maternal instincts in general.

Crying It Out to Create Soldiers

“War babies cry it out shut down’ was a search term on google that landed not just one person on my site, but two this week.

A little odd, but it reminded me of the Channel 4 Show: Bringing Up Baby which attempted to measure the successes and shortcomings of three different parenting methods for babies: Truby King, Dr Spock and the Continuum Concept. Families were set up with a mentor for the style of parenting they had opted to pursue and were guided along the way.
For the blissfully uninitiated, a …

Meet Mr Goog

I knew early on that I would marry Josh because I knew he was the father of my children. I just knew. Other things confirmed it – we fought like cats and dogs, laughed alot, enjoyed doing absolutely nothing together and were completely different yet totally the same.
This is us on our wedding day (do the outfits give it away?)

Us on our honeymoon in Vietnam (this is in Sapa) where we drank alot and I’m pretty sure I consumed my own body weight in bean curd. It was a mistake …
