Enquiring Minds

I will be adding to this page once I’ve had more than one question.

This questions is courtesy of Amber:

What does ‘Good Goog’ Mean?

‘Goog’ is slang for egg in Australia – so it is another way of saying ‘good egg’. A nickname that Riley inherited mainly because I didn’t like calling her ‘good girl’, ‘good goog’ or ‘googie’ seemed far more affectionate.

    Zoey,

As an American who has just learned something new by reading this, I now must ask what any American who reads this is thinking: Why the need for a slang word for egg? I’m baffled! But I love your endearing nickname for your daughter! :)

    • Hi Lauren! Us crazy Aussies, right? It originated as an abbreviation from the Scottish dialect. Apparently a child’s word for an egg was ‘googie’. Must have been imported to Australia – and you’ll now also see other phrases – like full as a goog (meaning very, very full).

Hey – just to let you know I visited your site this morning and all the links on the front page have “%post_name%” in them, so I can’t get to the entries to read them! Not sure if you’ve made any changes recently. Feel free to delete this comment, just didn’t know how else to contact you.
