Teething – The Final Frontier

It is well established that I’m not buying the whole ‘no such thing as teething‘ line. And I’ve whinged about it a whole lot from molars to sleepless nights to clingyness to high temperatures to lymphatic system problems to sleep regressions to plans gone awry to the challenges of comforting a toddler. I’m not bitter. I’m just really good at complaining. I’m gifted that way.
I can now see her 2 year molars pushing through. So here we are, finally, going through the last teething push. I imagine they’ll move up …

Teething, Teething and More Teething

Morning, good. Afternoon, bad. Afternoon very bad. Her cheeks seem quite swollen – so I think the 2 year molars must be moving around.
I gave her three bottles today and I stopped counting with the chocolate. And I didn’t even feel guilty. Not even one tiny little bit. Quite possibly because every time I gave her an Easter egg she gave me a cheeky grin, like she was getting away with something.
The worst thing about the teething toddler? The fact that she doesn’t really want to be comforted, which makes …

Best Laid Plans

Four day weekends. A chance to catch up on all those pesky things that seem to slip through the cracks when you have only a two day weekend. Except, I didn’t clean the house, or get any painting done, or do any washing or really do anything vaguely useful.
We went to a birthday party at the Australian Reptile Park, we visited a friend who’s just come home with her new baby, we hunted for Easter eggs and I watched Riley consumer her own body weight in chocolate. And then today …

Wistful

Not a good day today. My poor little baby (yes, I reserve the right to refer to her as my baby until her birthday on Saturday) was beside herself for most of the day. Might have been teething, I’m not sure. But generally she was just not herself. And while I was attempting to give her something to do/eat/play with that didn’t cause a tantrum/meltdown/general collapse into a puddle of tears, I opted not to photo document. Shocking, I know.
This photo was taken in December. It’s only know that I’m …

Guest Post: Growing Up Is Hard to Do

This is the first guest post on Good Goog, and it comes from Amber @ The Unlikely Mama. You can follow her on twitter here. Be warned, photos of her gorgeous daughter, Alexa, are a wee bit addictive. Proceed with caution. Amber has a generous spirit, an old soul and a wicked sense of humour (is there any other kind?) so give her a warm welcome!

Whoever says being a baby is easy is crazy.  Put yourself in your child’s shoes, or well, booties   Babies are like tiny refuges …

The Backslide

When Riley was about 14 months old she started reliably sleeping through the night and no needing my presence to get to sleep. Up until that point she was up three or more times a night and at nap time I would need to rock or stroke her to sleep.
Perhaps it was because I was no longer breastfeeding her, so there was less interest in night-time snacking, or perhaps it was that she had always hated the cot and I’d moved her to her toddler bed. Either way, I didn’t …

Still Teething

Letting me know she’s still teething, but at least capable of thinking of something entirely cheeky at the same time. Or perhaps she’s plotting world domination. Impossible to tell.

Recovery

The Doctor told me it was most  likely the two year molars and that the high temperaturs had triggered a reaction in her lymphatic system, causing (among other things) her glands to swell up. He prescribed antibiotics and I noticed an almost immediate improvement, particularly with her temperature wich had been pretty scary high.
Keeping the fluids up. Very important. It’s just as well, she loves her water and bottles, because her food over the last week has equated to a few handfuls of nutri grain and licking the peanut butter …

Shining Moment

My little munchkin has been teething again. Although to be fair, it never really stops. Occasionally, teething just takes a break for a few weeks in order to goad me into a false sense of security, so that when it returns I am woefully under-prepared. Yes. I am saying that teething has an evil plan. It probably also has a strange looking cat that it strokes in an uber-creepy way.
She requires to be attached pretty much every hour of the day, awake or sleeping. That part is pretty nice, really. …

Cutie Pie

Teething like crazy (note that snotty nose that I have clearly failed to clean) but at least she’s still capable of being distracted by swimming (she giggled with excitement as soon as I put her in her swimmers) and of course some time outside with the cat, the sandpit and the moon.
